Our Story
DAPH was founded on a simple belief: that every person, regardless of ability or income, deserves a seat at the table and a voice in the decisions that shape their life.
Who We Are
DAPH — Disability Advocacy & Public Health — is a grassroots nonprofit organization working at the intersection of disability rights, public health, and community organizing. We work in urban, rural, and suburban communities to ensure that the most marginalized voices are heard, respected, and empowered.
We believe that disability justice is inseparable from racial justice, housing justice, and health equity. Our work reflects that interconnection every day — in the halls of city government, in community centers, and on the streets.
We fight for systems that are fair, accessible, and accountable to all people.
We build power together — no one is left behind, no voice is too small.
We meet people where they are, using creative approaches to lasting change.
To build the collective power of people with disabilities and under-resourced communities — advocating for equitable health outcomes, accessible housing, and full civic participation for all.
A world where disability is not a barrier to dignity, opportunity, or justice — where every community has the resources, representation, and power it needs to thrive.
We organize from the ground up — listening first, then acting together. We combine direct advocacy, community education, coalition building, and electoral engagement to drive real, lasting change.
Our History
DAPH was founded by a small group of disability advocates and public health professionals who saw a gap between policy and lived reality in their communities.
Successfully advocated for accessible ramp installations across 14 public buildings in our home city — our first major policy victory.
Received federal nonprofit recognition, allowing us to expand fundraising, grow our team, and deepen our community programs.
Launched our Housing Justice campaign in partnership with three local tenant organizations, fighting for accessible and affordable housing protections.
DAPH continues to grow — with active campaigns in health equity, housing, and disability rights, serving communities across the region.
